INFORMATION ABOUT PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH AND SCHOOL
Peace Lutheran Congregation was formally organized on April 1, 1959. Under the
guidance of the Holy Spirit, the congregation has been permitted to "let its light
shine" in this community and to share the Gospel of Christ.
In the spring of 1966, the congregation decided to add a Christian elementary school
to its education program. The formal opening of the school occurred in 1967.
Three building additions have been made to the building since that time.
The Pre-School program was initiated in 1974.
Over the course of time, Peace Lutheran School has been blessed with the following principals:
Mr. Gerry Nast (1967-1979), Mr. Ray Hartmann (1979-2000), Mr. Harvey Neumann (2000-2001)and Mr.Warren and Mrs. Karen Priehs (Co-Principals) (2001-2002). There have been
28 teachers employed during these years of operation.
Peace Lutheran School experienced a steady growth during the years of operation.
The school had an enrollment of 34 students in its first year. This coming year
the enrollment is expected to be near 300 students.
Peace Lutheran School is one of over 1,200 Lutheran Elementary Schools in North
America and one of over 163 Lutheran Schools (pre-school and elementary) in the
state of Michigan. Nationally, about 20% of all schools have received recognition
as a nationally acclaimed school. Peace Lutheran School holds accreditation status
from the National Lutheran School Accreditation Association. The school also is
accreditated by the Michigan Association of Non-Public Schools.
Peace Lutheran School is a state-approved educational institution, operating
within the framework of the Michigan School law, and is under the jurisdiction
of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod as well as the State Superintendent of Public
Peace Lutheran School is administered according to the State of Michigan's required
standards of elementary education. All teaching personnel are certified by the
State of Michigan and by the Board of Parish Education of the Lutheran Church.
